30th IOS Congress, Natal, State of Rio Grande del Norte, Brazil.

6. - 8. August, 2008

The next IOS Congress will be held in conjunction with the Sociedad Latinoamericana y del Caribe de Cactáceas y otras Suculentas (SLCCS) at the venue of the Congreso Nacional de Botánica (CNB) from 6 - 8 August 2008, most probably at the Convention Center of the Praiamar Hotel. Augusto Severo International Airport is located about 10 km from the Hotel and Convention Center, and less than 20 km from the center of the city of Natal. The Congress fee is not yet known. A form for provisional registration is given here.

The following programme is proposed:

Wednesday, 6. August

09:00-12:00Symposium: Taxonomy, Systematics and Evolution of Cactaceae with talks by invited speakers
14:00-17:00Symposium: Succulent Plants: Ecology, Uses and Conservation with talks by invited speakers

Thursday, 7. August

09:00-16:00Presentations on succulent plants contributed by members of IOS and SLCCS

Friday, 8. August

Saturday, 9. - Friday, 15. August

Excursion in the area of Morro do Chapéu, Bahia, led by Marlon Machado. Flight from Natal to Salvador da Bahia, local travel by minivan, with return to Salvador da Bahia. Costs for the excursion depend on the number of participants, currently estimated at about 500 Euros. Some further details are given here.

The possibility of another shorter fieldtrip, led by Nigel Taylor, by road, to study Melocactus violaceus at the northern limit of its range, is under discussion.
